Take a road trip across New South Wales

A road trip is described as a lengthy journey in a motor vehicle, usually taken for leisure.

Given the great length and breadth of Australia such a trip would take many weeks or even months. Unsurprisingly, to take a road trip around New South Wales can also take many days or even weeks!

During the 2020 pandemic, our state borders were closed and airlines were grounded. As we emerged from lockdown, we looked at ways to safely escape our secure home environments and the NSW road trip quickly grew in popularity. People began to discover amazing places to visit in their own backyard.

With towns like Grafton covered in purple petals during Jacaranda season, Temora’s golden fields of canola or inland to Orange and the cool-climate wines grown at the foothills of Mount Canobolas not to mention the many unique lighthouses dotted along the entire coastline of NSW, it seems until international borders open there is plenty to do and see right here at home!

Most of the posts on my New South Wales travel blog involve driving to a destination with regular stops and points of interest along the way.  I’ll recall the morning tea of scones and jam at a cute café in Bowral, the fine dining at the hotel that’s over 100 years old in Gundaroo or fish cooked fresh from the trawler in Yamba as I sat by the sea, as well as many other places and experiences that don’t always involve food!

There’s plenty to see and do in the state of New South Wales and a road trip allows you to get off the beaten path. Leave the highway behind and meander along the winding country roads until you find a place to rest. Drive up into the mountains and take in the vistas from the top. Head outback along the straight dusty roads that seem to go on forever or follow the old coast road and spend some time in the seaside villages.

So, whether you drive a caravan or motorhome, sedan or a convertible with the wind in your hair, just get out there and get on the road!
